Texas Medical Coverage

There are three types of basic medical insurance coverage in Texas: the family/individual health coverage; small business health policies for companies that have between 2 and 50 employees; and Medicare supplements for individuals with Medicare. Texas health insurance policies are essentially the same as most health insurance packages in other states; but there are also some differentiating factors that make Texas medical insurance programs unique. The state of Texas has some unique laws when it comes to insurance policies.

Different Patient Laws

The rights of a TX medical insurance policy holder are protected by strong patient laws. These laws provide security for the insured individual and protection from less than honorable Texas medical insurance providers. Some of the patient's rights protected by these laws include guaranteed access to specialties , prescription drugs, and annual physical examinations. Furthermore, Texas medical insurance laws prohibit any Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) to award monetary compensation or reimbursement to their doctors who did not provide the adequate medical services or facilities promised to Texas health insurance policy holders.

HIPAA

Another law that has been a great help to Texans is the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). The HIPAA exists to help Texans obtain quality TX medical insurance coverage specifically those who have an existing medical condition. Texans with pre-existing medical and health issues are highly encouraged to enroll with the program as it covers any expenses on pre-existing conditions for a year after the approval of the policy.
