California Medical Coverage for Seniors
As people grow older, the more they depend on senior health care plans to cover their medical and other health expenses. In California, the medical insurance rates of seniors fluctuate often. That is why the elderly of California need to have stable senior health care plans to help them live their lives free from worries.
The government, through Medicare, has provided the California Medicare Advantage for senior citizens in California. The California Medicare Advantage offers seniors of California five choices of medical and health coverage, with each choice having different sets of benefits and features from the other.

The Benefits of HMO's
The first option, Medicare Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), requires members to choose from the services of doctors and hospitals associated with the HMO they registered in. Aside from that, seniors who choose this type of Medicare Advantage policy will be given a primary care doctor who will manage their health care needs.
The Benefits of PPO's
Medicare Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) is the next on the list of Medicare Advantage options. It is basically the same as an HMO-based membership except that if a patient decides to use the services of a doctor outside the registered network of doctors and hospitals, the patient has to co-pay a large amount of the expenses.
Other Medicare Advantage options include:
- Medicare PFFS (Private Fee-for-Service) plans are tendered by private businesses and enable a patient to go to any Medicare-registered doctor or hospital as long as they accept the terms of the patient's plan's payment
- Medicare SNPs (Special Needs Plans) are designed for the elderly who have special needs like those living in nursing homes, etc.
- Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug, or MAPD, plan is a Medicare Advantage Plan that also includes prescription drug benefits.
