Trying to be Normal
Hi everyone, back again. Not sure why. I told myself that I was fine. I am holding on to having that drink. I'm afraid to commit. I'm afraid to say I will never drink again. It's easy to say I won't drink today....well, maybe...on the days I don't have an urge it's easy to say I won't drink today...Last night I had wine with dinner...only 2 glasses...all good in my husbands eyes. And then on the way home I stopped off and picked up a four pack of the little ones and finished them off over the next couple hours after he went to bed....obviously that's not normal right? Yet even as I sit here I think it has to be in some way...I want to be normal. Thanks for letting me share.

Sleep Problems Get In The Way Of Alcoholism Recovery
The first few months of recovery from an alcohol problem are hard enough. But they're often made worse by serious sleep problems, caused by the loss of alcohol's sedative effects, and the long-term sleep-disrupting impact that alcohol dependence can have on the brain. Now, a new study gives further evidence that insomnia and other sleep woes may actually get in the way of recovery from alcohol problems.

worried about my blood pressure
My blood pressure was normal 2 years ago before I re started smoking and drinking a bottle of wine a day... I quit smoking 6 weeks ago and quit drinking 15 days ago. One would think that their b/p would drop somewhat by now.. I am concerned. I have been to the dr. and he said to monitor it over 24 hrs by borowwing a special monitor at a drug store. They are reserved right now. I just had a reading at a Safeway store. of 166/99...freaked me out.!!Anyone have some advice on how long it takes to see a drop after you quit drinking? I am 20 lbs over weight as well right now.. fedup

Alcohol in unexpected places!!!!
Hi everyone,I'd like to share with you what happened to me a little while ago at work. One of our departments hosted a Christmas social and the whole building was invited to come in. There was food everywhere! I strolled through the area, admired the decorations and music and got a plate of food (mostly snack like things). There were some pecans that were covered in white and dark chocolate that looked tasty so I got a couple. I then proceeded back to my office. When I got to the pecans I put one in my mouth and bit down. Immediately my mouth was flooded with alcohol (bourbon or rum I'm not sure). These pecans had been soaked prior to being drizzled in chocolate.I immediately was filled with a sense of panic, revulsion and started spitting it out. I rinsed my mouth out with diet coke and then picked up the phone. I then got to thinking and wondering how many other AA's might be in the building and unwittingly do the same thing I did so I talked to my manager, explained what had happened and that I am a recovering alcoholic and my concerns that this stuff was laying out there with no warning. She left to go take care of it.I am ok, no desire to drink at all, shaken up a bit. I just wanted to share this to warn everyone especially during the holidays to be very careful what you put in your mouth. Normal people don't think twice about something like this but we have to. For me it is a matter of life and death.I will also be bringing this up as a topic at the next meeting I go to especially to warn the newcomers.Hugs to all,Kellye
