Especially, according to nationalunderwriter.com, as a "looming compliance problem."The chairwoman of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), Mary Schapiro, said in a message delivered at the launch meeting of the Securities and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) "Sellers of financial products had better be careful about what they sell and how they sell to aging baby boomers."Schapiro went on to say:SIFMA member companies should test their products and strategies offered to seniors, train sales supervisors and sales representatives well, and make sure that they have appropriate internal oversight in place.

How Do Life Insurance Benefits Effect Children?
Parents often buy life insurance to provide benefits to their children if the parents were to die prematurely. This reason is one of the biggest behind life insurance purchases and is critical for protecting family's responsibilities. An article on forbes.com written by attorneys from nolo.com, a source for do-it-yourself legal solutions for consumers and small businesses, addresses the important issue of life insurance and how it effects beneficiaries especially children. The key points addressed by the article are "whether or not you really need life insurance, what type of policy is best and who should manage the proceeds on behalf of your children."The type of life insurance recommended by the article is not too surprisingly term insurance. The article states, "you should avoid expensive cash value life insurance (whole life, universal life, variable life) policies that offer a lump sum payment after a certain period of time (20 or 30 years, for example) or after you reach a certain age (often 65)." Basically everyone should avoid Ford, Chevy and Honda and only buy Toyota because one size fits all.

Idaho Implementing Statewide Long Term Care Program
Idaho has joined several other states in a long-term care partnership program that “encourages consumers to protect themselves against the cost of long-term care” according to nationalunderwriter.com.  Congress initially limited the program participants to 4 state pilot programs but recently gave permission for all states to participate.  The program works in the following way:The program gives states the ability to let residents coordinate approved private LTC insurance policies with Medicaid nursing home benefits. The program helps the unlucky consumers who use up private LTC benefits protect some of their assets if they end up needing Medicaid nursing home benefits. In Idaho, program participants who end up turning to Medicaid will be able to keep assets with a value equal to the partnership LTC policy benefit payments. Idaho Insurers have already been advised in an Insurance Department bulletin “that they must start including a notice describing the partnership program in all LTC insurance policies sold in the state, including non-partnership program policies.”

Survey Says Many Americans Relying On Social Security Too Much
The Retirement Corporation of America Inc. conducted a survey about individual’s reliance and expectations of Social Security according to nationalunderwriter.com.  The survey revealed “many Americans expect to depend on Social Security as a significant source of income after they retire.”  Twenty-three percent of survey respondents “intend to rely on Social Security as their main source of income in retirement.”  Because of the continuous lack of financial education I am not surprised that so many people are looking to Social Security as their main retirement plan.  Some of the other results from the survey include:Only 31% believe their savings, mutual funds or individual retirement accounts will be the primary source of their income.  The survey also found 61% of nonretired Americans believe they will need to save $500,000 or more by the time they retire, while 59% believe that they are likely to reach their savings goals.
